From Tragedy to Triumph

Many of us struggle at times to find hope, especially when life’s challenges seem insurmountable. In a recent podcast interview, our founder, Catherine Hammond, opened up about her own journey and how she discovered an unshakeable hope that can withstand any circumstances.

As the hero of her own story, Catherine vulnerably shared about growing up with a mother who battled suicidal depression and later developed Alzheimer’s disease when Catherine was just a teenager. She recounted moments throughout her life that tested her deeply, from health crises of loved ones to the ups and downs of building a business.

The Lie We Believe About Hope

Through it all, Catherine initially believed the lie that her hope was dependent on her circumstances. But in a pivotal “aha” moment on an airplane, she realized a fundamental truth:

“Hope is not actually tied to my circumstances. Literally, I’m on the plane, and my jaw dropped because I had always thought that it was tied to my circumstances, and I started to pay attention.”

This shift in perspective changed everything. In her book, hope(less): The truth about hope and where to find it,” Catherine identifies seven common lies we believe about hope and shares seven corresponding truths that set us free.

Guiding Others on the Journey

Now, Catherine is on a mission to guide others on their own journey from hopelessness to unshakeable hope.

Her message, shared in her book and in this podcast interview, resonates because she speaks not as an untested guru, but as a fellow traveler who has walked through valleys of profound pain and loss.

“What people tell me after they have read the book is that they see their circumstances in a completely new way. They feel less tied to ‘Does everything look okay right now?’ Because just like with the sun, sometimes you see the sun, sometimes it’s cloudy or foggy, or it’s nighttime and you don’t see it, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not there.”

Practical Wisdom for the Journey

Beyond just offering inspiration, Catherine also provides a practical path forward. She advises listeners to make decisions not just with logic, but with the intuitive wisdom of mind, body and spirit working in harmony.

“I try to hold both of them very tenderly and check in with my mind, but also check in with my body. I think we in the Western world have been trained to put 100% of our reliance on our mind…but there’s a lot that we know somatically through our bodies, through our knowing, intuition, the Holy Spirit.”

Even when outcomes disappoint in the short term, unwavering hope enables us to get back up, learn and move forward.

Live While You’re Alive

Experiencing the tragic losses of loved ones has only deepened Catherine’s determination to make the most of the life she’s been given. Her mother’s “live while you’re alive” mantra continues to eliminate the temptation of going through the motions without truly engaging.

We at Hammond Law Group are committed to empowering you to protect your legacy and ensure a smooth transfer of assets to your loved ones after you’re gone. But Catherine’s message reminds us that the greater task is to live each day to the fullest, with an undimmed hope that transcends circumstances.
